Where we work

Service areas

Everything runs out of Carlsbad. Two regions get worked week in and week out — North County San Diego and South Orange County — and they are close enough together that a callback is a short drive rather than a scheduling problem. Two more are honest travel: worth the trip for a commercial scope, not for one patch in a hallway.

14 cities and communities have a page of their own, because we work them often enough to have something specific to say. The rest are listed plainly. Coverage is real either way — the difference is how much detail we can honestly offer before walking the job.

Drive times on these pages are rounded off-peak estimates from 92008, not routing-app numbers. Treat them as roughly that long on a normal morning, and expect the 5 and the 78 to have opinions of their own.

An empty room part-way through a remodel, walls freshly boarded and coated white, bare floor and daylight crossing the new surfaces.

Working region

North County San Diego

Home territory. Dino's Drywall is based in Carlsbad, and everything from the Camp Pendleton gate down to Del Mar and inland to Escondido and San Marcos is a normal working day. Six decades of construction sit inside that footprint — plaster cottages on the coast, popcorn ceilings across the inland tract belt, smooth Level 5 in the newer remodels — which is why the first question on any job here is what is already on the wall.

Also covered in this region

Poway · Fallbrook · Rancho Bernardo · Cardiff-by-the-Sea · Leucadia · Olivenhain · Bonsall · Valley Center · Lake San Marcos · Fairbanks Ranch · 4S Ranch · Rancho Peñasquitos · Camp Pendleton · Ramona

These get worked normally. There is just not enough that is genuinely different to say about each one to justify a page, and a page that repeats the one before it helps nobody.

Working region

South Orange County

The second working region, half an hour up the 5 to San Clemente and out through the Saddleback Valley. Hand textures on the Spanish-era coastal stock, the densest concentration of pre-1980 sprayed ceilings anywhere we work in Mission Viejo, and production knockdown across everything built after 1990. Worth the drive, and close enough that a callback is not a production.

Also covered in this region

Talega · Laguna Niguel · Laguna Beach · Aliso Viejo · Lake Forest · Rancho Santa Margarita · Coto de Caza · Ladera Ranch · Rancho Mission Viejo · Irvine · Laguna Hills · Laguna Woods · Las Flores · Trabuco Canyon · Newport Coast · Emerald Bay · Newport Beach

These get worked normally. There is just not enough that is genuinely different to say about each one to justify a page, and a page that repeats the one before it helps nobody.

What changes city to city

Why these pages are not the same page four times

A drywall job is decided by what is already on the wall and what is behind it, and both of those were set decades ago by whoever built the neighborhood. Four things move from one city to the next, and between them they explain most of the difference in how a job here gets scoped and priced.

The texture already on the wall

A repair only disappears if it matches what is around it, and what is around it was decided by whoever built the tract. Production orange peel and knockdown can genuinely be made invisible. Hand-applied skip trowel and troweled work carries the signature of the hand that applied it, and matching one is the whole job rather than the last step of it. That is why the estimate on a hand-textured wall starts with a sample board and the estimate on a tract wall does not.

Whether the ceiling has to be tested first

California presumes a sprayed acoustic ceiling in a building constructed in or before 1980 contains asbestos until a Cal/OSHA certified consultant has sampled it and an accredited lab has said otherwise, and the local air district wants a survey before a renovation regardless of building age. That puts the inland pre-1980 tract belt — Vista, Escondido, the older Oceanside and Mission Viejo stock — in a different sequence from a 1998 house in San Elijo Hills. Test, then plan, then scrape.

Water, and where it comes from

Within a mile of the sand the calls are moisture: a wall gone soft behind tile, a ceiling under an upstairs bathroom, a slider head that has been wicking quietly for two winters. Inland, the same-looking crack is usually movement — slab, soil and season — and filling it without reading it means filling it again next summer. Different cause, different repair, and it is worth knowing which one you have before anyone quotes it.

How the material gets into the room

A twelve-foot sheet does not turn corners. On the Del Mar hill, in the Laguna canyons and down the Lantern District stairs there is no driveway and no staging room, so carry and access are a genuine part of the scope rather than a surcharge invented at the end. On a flat Vista tract they are not, and the estimate should show that difference honestly.

Will travel for larger scopes

Further out, and honest about it

These are an hour and more each way from Carlsbad. We will make that drive for a commercial tenant improvement, a whole-house interior or a multi-unit scope — work with enough in it to justify the travel for both of us. For a single patch in a hallway there is somebody closer who should get that call, and we would rather say so than take the job and resent the drive.

South San Diego County

Travel

Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach, Coronado and the communities around them sit an hour and a quarter or more from Carlsbad. We will travel down for commercial scopes, whole-house interiors and multi-unit work, but this is not everyday territory and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.

Cities covered

Chula Vista · National City · Imperial Beach · Coronado · Bonita · San Ysidro

North Orange County

Travel

Anaheim, Santa Ana, Orange, Fullerton and the cities around them sit an hour or more past the core South County route. Worth the drive for a commercial tenant improvement, a historic plaster interior or a whole-house scope. For a single patch in a hallway, there is someone closer who should get that call.
